One of the main lakes of The Chain of Lakes, Lake Carlos (lakecarlos.com) is located 5 miles north of Alexandria, Minnesota. With 2,520 acres, a maximum depth of 163 feet and 14.1 miles of shoreline, it is the largest lake on The Chain. On the north end is Carlos State Park which is popular for camping, picnicking, nature trails and cross country skiing.
Lake Carlos (the source of the Long Prairie River) has two inlets, Lake L'Homme Dieu and Lake Darling. Through the middle of Carlos is a channel 50 feet deep running the entire length of the lake. The water of Lake Carlos is very pure and has a deep olive green color.
